Paragon GPT Loader lets 3TB drives work under Windows XP. 3, 2010 (3:35 pm) By: Matthew Humphries. Many users are continuing to use Windows XP instead of upgrading to Windows 7 mainly because they don't believe the upgrade is necessary. Win XP + 3TB + Paragon GPT Loader bizarreness (self.computertechs). So following the normal procedure, I installed Paragon's GPT Loader driver.
I am a long time tech who has worked with with XP and many other operating systems since the early 90s and I have encountered a strange issue that I could use some advice on.
I am working on an old XP machine, trying to get a 3TB Hard drive (WDC WD30 EZR-00DC08B0) properly working on it. The 3TB drive is recognized by Windows, as is the Silicon Image SiL 3114 SATA PCI card that it's connected to.
So following the normal procedure, I installed Paragon's GPT Loader driver. (Paragon-197-PEE_WinInstallSNU_10.0.16.12944_000.msi)
Following the install and rebooting, I get the following after a short while at the XP boot logo:

And I cannot get back into Windows unless I choose Last Know Good Configuration, which gets me back with the state reverted to just before the GPT Loader was installed.
The machine is a custom built from around 2002-or-2003, so it lacks EFI. It is my understanding that the GPT Loader is really a virtual/software EFI.
If so, is it posible that such a virtual EFI would have AHCI turned on within itself? I have heard of cases where Windows will refuse to boot when AHCI is toggled in a BIOS/firmware that has such a toggle without changing anything in Windows. Could this be what's happening? The mobo's BIOS itself has no AHCI support that I know of so that only leaves the GPT loader.
Motherboard: Intel D850EMV2
BIOS: AMI MV85010A.86A.0025.P10.020328215
System drive ('C:') is connected to the motherboard's IDE controller, master on primary channel.
The 3TB drive is connected to a Silicon Image SiL 3114 SATA PCI card.
I've also tried adding additional entried to the boot.ini where I tried different multi and disk numbers but only M0 D0 actually tries to start XP.
