Does anybody know where I can purchase or reserve a copy of At the Card Table by Darwin Ortiz? I've been trying to obtain this book for a long time and am losing a little patience-lol. Any help is greatly appreciated.

How 'long' did you look? I found two copies for much less than you are prepared to pay in less than five seconds; http://www.amazon.com/Darwin-Ortiz-at-Ca......0072ELOW

Darwin Ortiz at the Card Table has been out of print for several years, so it’s extremely unlikely that any magic dealer would have it in stock. Before anyone asks, I'm sorry to say that I do not have any copies for sale myself.
Sincerely,
Darwin Ortiz

If you know a magic dealer that buys from Magic City, they may have a copy left. I got one from them a while back.

Check with Denny&Lee's shop. I bought At The Card Table about two years ago from Denny's shop in Vegas. I don't think it's that hard to find. At least two years ago it wasn't hard for me to find anyway.

I think you can get some of the effects in the book on his At the card table dvd's. I don't think all of them are there, but it's great to watch him in action again, and performing new things. If you have both, atleast you can see how it should look
well, I'm just missing the last dvd of the set and I think I'll be good for a while

Odd that the German site linked to says 'Back in print!' for this. I'm tempted to buy it after reading this discussion, although I will probably not have the time to read it for at least two years.
Will give the original poster a chance to strike first tho, in case there is only one copy in stock.

Dropped by Denny's yesterday for a chat. No 'At The Card Table' on hand to those wondering. (Used, very good 'Cardshark' resting on his shelf to anyone interested.)
German knock off, huh. You'll get what you pay for.
I wonder if it will include in the Publisher's Note page: Copyright 1988 by Darwin Ortiz?

Yes it does..But it also states:
Also by Darwin Ortiz
Gambling Scams
(1984)
...
Cardshark
(1995)
I have seen this book in a another shop as well, it came out together with the
reprint of Cardshark and like I said it states KAUFMAN AND COMEPANY not KAUFMAN AND GREENBERG like the 1988 Edition
maybe one should ask at the Genii Forum

I don't think it's very likely that the German book is a knockoff. Probably they mean that they have it back in stock. Germans are very orderly people.
Also, as famous as Ortiz is, it wouldn't exactly be a goldmine to pirate one of his books and then sell it at retail price to a tiny group of magicians in Germany. The smart pirate would have probably gone with a first edition of Lady Chattely's Lover instead.
Google reveals that they also have it in stock here: http://www.magicbooksbypost.co.uk/shop/s......&id=1803

Heck. Why beat your head against the wall over the book. I'm a firm believer in books over other media, but with Ortiz's DVD's you get up close, excellent personal instructions and 'tips.' Plus the added bonus of entertainment in watching him work. (Basing this comment on the VHS tapes I own. I'm assuming improved picture quality is the only difference between the VHS and DVD formats.)

Although I do agree that the DVDs for AT The Card Table are great, the book has some routines that are not on the DVDs that are worth studying (and the explanation to the Ultimate Card Shark).

And Greek Poker (not explained on video), the best trick in the book IMHO.

I love At the Card Table. What a book!
When I met Darwin, he was gracious enough to sign my copies of.
At the Card Table,
Strong Magic,
Scams & Fantasies with Cards,
and Annotated Erdnase.
When I ordered Designing Miracles directly from him, he also signed my copy of that.
Now all I need signed is my copy of Cardshark.
All of these books are fantastic. I grateful that he wrote and released them.

Well, if you can't get the book, little choice remains. Right?
Besides, even if the DVDs do not contain all the printed material, how are you to know what's left out, if you don't have the book???
His personal performances are well worth some of the necessary trade off---a real value not found in the book.
And trust me, the material that is included on the DVDs certainly will not disappoint you.
(Hey Darwin! How about another set of DVDs: 'At The Card Table: The LOST Effects?' Just kidding..........but...............)
